Migrant worker kills woman in mill quarters
The Coimbatore district police is on the lookout for a 21-year-old labourer from Assam for allegedly murdering a 20-year-old woman working in the same spinning mill at Vadakipalayam on the Pattanam Road near Sulur. The woman was strangulated to death with a shawl in her quarters.

According to the police, preliminary inquiries revealed that the accused and the victim claimed to be husband and wife and joined work in the mill only four days ago. It is learnt that the man accused of committing the crime was S Abdul Nazer of Assam.Â
The victim was identified as Indhu of Kumbakonam. The girl worked in a mill at Pappampatti Pirivu near Sulur till last week. While the whereabouts and antecedents of Nazer are not known the duo joined work at Devi Spinners at Vadakipalayam in the last week of December.Â
Close to 50 labourers work in the mill, where some of them stay in the quarters. The duo was given a quarters. On Monday morning the duo did not turn up for work and a staff went to their quarters and found her dead with a shawl around her neck.Â
Meanwhile Nazer was missing. Â The owner of the mill V Selvaraj visited the place and informed Sulur police, after which her body was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for autopsy by the Sulur police. Police sources said that an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.Â
A case was registered under section 174 (suspicious death) of the Code of Criminal Procedures. After autopsy it is likely to be altered to murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
