“We told her (Sasikala) that she has been appointed the general secretary effective from Thursday itself. Very soon, she will come to the party headquarters and commence the party work,” Panneerselvam, who is also the AIADMK treasurer, said.
“We requested her to accept the party’s decision of appointing her as the general secretary and give her concurrence to it and honourable Chinnamma wholeheartedly accepted it,” he told reporters here after calling on Sasikala at the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalithaa where she continues to live. Panneerselvam said, “She has agreed wholeheartedly to guard and lead the party like Amma by following her path.”
Several other state ministers, including Revenue Minister RB Udhaya Kumar and Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani, too said Sasikala had accepted the party decision, adding that she will

Celebrations in districts
A section of AIADMK cadre performed milk abhishekam to the statue of their party founder MGR, burst crackers and distributed sweets in Tiruchy on Thursday.
This came after news of the resolutions being passed by the General Council in Chennai, including the one proposing Sasikala’s name for the post of General Secretary.
The celebrations were identical in nature in other districts. In Madurai, AIADMK cadres distributed sweets and raised slogans of ‘Chinnamma’ jubilantly. At Rameswaram, cadre assembled in front of the western tower of Ramanathaswamy Temple and burst crackers. Lawyers in Thoothukudi, attached to AIADMK celebrated the news.
Crackers were burst in front of the Court on Palayamkottai Main Road. However, in all the towns and villages important functionaries were absent during the celebrations and it was the grass root workers who had participated in the celebrations.
