    Note ban anti-Constitutional: PWF leaders

Demonetisation of higher value currencies of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an attack on the Constitution which safeguards the integrity of the country. It is also an attack on poor people in the country, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan said.

Addressing the party’s political conference in Puducherry, Thirumavalavan said all sections of the people are  affected as Modi had announced demonetisation bypassing the Parliament on November 8, which is an act of spoiling democracy and as a result the economy of the country is in shatters.

He said when the Peoples’ Welfare Front (PWF) was formed along with MDMK leader Vaiko, many people had stated that this will not last long. In spite of that good relations were maintained. However, the stance of Vaiko on demonetisation, who supported it, spoiled the relationship and it is sad that Vaiko is not in this conference, Thirumavalavan said, adding that the relationship with the communist parties are good and firm.

Stating that the PWF was not for political gains, the VCK leader said that the CPI, CPI (M) and VCK together will lead the front and added it would continue its agitations against demonetisation.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI (M) Tamil Nadu Secretary G Ramakrishnan said all sections of the people particularly Dalits and the poor were severely affected because of the demonetisation while the rich like Ambai, Adani, Tata and Birla were in no way affected. Of the 29,000 shops in Puducherry, only 400 are  having Point of sale machines and as such how could cashless transactions be implemented here. The PWF will  continue its agitation on the demonetisation issue and other issues of the Union government which would affect the people, Ramakrishnan said, adding that even though, Vaiko had quit the PWF, the alliance would continue.

Even after the 50-day time frame sought by the Prime Minister, there was not much improvement in cash circulation and the black money was not eradicated, he added.

CPI Tamil Nadu Secretary Mutharasan said Modi is running his government through ordinances. The Prime Minister is not addressing the Parliament and instead addressing the people over Doordarshan and All India Radio. It was proven that he does not have any faith on the Parliament, he said.
