    Much-awaited Aristo junction project gains momentum

    With negotiations, reportedly underway with the Central government agencies for land acquisition process for the much awaited Aristo roundabout in the city, the district administration maintained that the in-principle approval has been obtained for expediting the works over remaining arms of the flyover.

    The project considered to be one of the vital road projects to ease the congestion in the city is getting hampered by the unwarranted delay in transfer of land. The Tiruchy Junction Road Over Bridge (ROB), includes seven arm which includes a high-level rotary with over 4 arms. The project estimated at a cost of Rs 81.40 crore is planned in two phases where the first phase alone was anticipated to be completed in 2017. 

    District Collector KS Palanisamy told reporters that the in principal approval from railways has been obtained as cost of land acquisition has been agreed by both sides. State Highways Department is negotiating with the central government agencies and the project is expected to gain pace in another two months. 

    Meanwhile district collector inspected the Periyar Nagar RoB works during which the highways department officials informed the district collector that about 30 percent of the construction works has been completed. With about 48 pillars coming up in Periyar Nagar RoB for constructing the bridge spanning for 1,430 metres in length, district collector was briefed about the work progress by officials of the highway department. He also inspected the road works undertaken by the state high ways department which had laid 1616 km road to the tune of Rs 471.70 crore for the past five years.
