Labourer held for raping 4-year-old in Tirupur

The accused has been identified as Abbas (24) who was staying with his mother, a widow, at Devarayanpalayam near Avinashi in Tirupur district. He was known to the girl’s family as he used to play with her often. 

On Sunday evening, the girl was playing near her house when he forcibly took her to a lonely place near a burial ground. This was seen by a few boys playing cricket in the open area close to their houses. About half an hour later they noticed Abbas returning alone. 

Meanwhile, the girl’s family and neighbours started searching for the missing child and the boys told them that Abbas was last seen taking the girl near the burial ground. 

The villagers beat Abbas, after which he confessed to have molested the child. Police sources said that he also assaulted her on the head with a log as the girl was crying in pain. Later, he threw the girl into thorny bushes and walked back to his house. 

On his confession, the police and villagers found the girl who was crying in pain. She was rushed to a private hospital in Tirupur on Sunday night. 

The girl was later referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment on Monday. The girl is said to be out of danger. 

Tirupur North All Woman Police Station has booked Abbas under sections 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. 

He was arrested the same night and remanded to judicial custody in the early hours of Monday.
