3 murders in a day shock Madurai residents
Three persons, including a woman were murdered in separate incidents here in the district on Saturday.

In the first incident, a 30-yearold man was murdered by his younger brother over a property dispute at Madurai. The deceased, Thangapandi and his brother Suresh had a dispute regarding their house. Thangapandi, who had been taking care of their mother demanded the property for himself but Suresh opposed this. On Saturday, while Thangapandi was sleeping at his house, Suresh hacked him to death and escaped from the spot. The South Gate police have registered a case and are searching for Suresh.Â
In the second incident, a 32-year-old man was murdered by robbers, who also took away Rs 18,000 in cash and a mobile phone from him. Sources said, Chinnapandi, of Goripalayam in Madurai, went to recharge his mobile on Thursday night but did not return home. Later, his wife Ramalakshmi was informed that Chinnapandi was lying on the road with injuries. Thinking that he had met with an accident, the family rushed Chinnapandi to the Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital. On Friday night one of their friends informed that the family members that he had seen two persons attacking Chinnapandi with a bottle. Following inquiries, the family realised that Chinnapandi had Rs 18,000 in cash on him when he was attacked.Â
They also found that the cash and his mobile phone were missing. The family then lodged a complaint with the Tallakulam police, who registered a case under section 397 of IPC (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and initiated investigations. On Saturday morning, Chinnapandi succumbed to his injuries. Following this, the police changed the robbery case into murder. Search is on to nab the assailants.Â
In the third incident, an unidentified woman was found murdered on the side of Tirumangalam-Rajapalayam road at M Subbulapuram in Madurai district. The victim, aged around 55 years had injuries to her body. Besides, her hands and legs were tied and mouth was stuffed with a cloth. The police have registered a murder case and are investigating further.
