PWF not permanent, but leaders united: Thol Thirumavalavan
Putting an end to speculations among the cadres of various parties of the People’s Welfare Front (PWF) leaders on the status of the alliance, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan said that alliances like PWF cannot be permanent, though there was no rift among its leaders.

Replying to a question when he arrived here to take part in a public meeting in Gudalur against the Uniform Civil Code, he said, “It will be People’s Welfare Front when we join hands and raise our voice for a common cause. It will be People’s Welfare Alliance during the election. But such alliance and fronts cannot be permanent,” he said. He also clarified that the party did not ignore Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) founder and PWF convener Vaiko for their (VCK’s) conference against demonetisation to be held on December 28. He said that the leaders of the front deliberated on demonetisation including Vaiko.
“We elaborated him on the title as well as the purpose of our conference to be held in Puducherry. After discussions, he said that the MDMK supports the union government’s demonetisation and expressed his inability to participate in the conference,” said Thirumavalavan. He reiterated that the PWF was formed with one motive — to stay together for a common cause and not highlight the difference of opinions in a common platform.
“We have been like this so far. MDMK is not with us (three other parties in PWF) on stage for this issue. When situation arises, all four parties will come together again,” he added.
Demonetisation move against democracy Coming down heavily on Prime Minister, Thirumavalavan declared Narendra Modi a dictator and his demonetisation announcement an act against democracy. He said that people in the lower and middle class are badly affected by the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currencies.
“While the Prime Minister is calling it an exercise to eradicate black money, introducing Rs 2,000 notes have doubled black money activity,” he alleged. He also opposed the Uniform Civil Code and termed it suppression of Sharia Law, “which is protecting the rights of Muslims.”
