M Karunanidhi shows steady progress, may be discharged on December 23
DMK President M Karunanidhi, who has been re-admitted in a private hospital in the city for lung and throat infections and underwent a tracheostomy procedure, was expected to be discharged in the next couple of days.

Hospital sources said he has shown significant improvement after the procedure and was breathing normally. He is expected to be discharged in the next two to three days. Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties, including PMK founder S Ramadoss, CPI leader D Raja visited the hospital and wished him speedy recovery.Â
Addressing media persons at the hospital, Ramadoss said he will meet the DMK Chief at his residence after he gets discharged. DMK MP TKS Elangovan, who is also in the hospital, said that Karunanidhi’s health has improved.Â
“Our leader is watching television and reading newspapers’’, he added. Meanwhile, Raja told reporters that Karunanidhi was expected to be discharged by Friday. He said Karunanidhi was a tall leader of social justice and wished him speedy recovery. Raja said that he had spoken to the family members of the DMK Chief who said that he would be discharged by Friday.Â
Meanwhile, people from various walks of life, including actor Vivek, visited him at the hospital. The DMK Chief, who was earlier discharged from hospital on December seven, was re-admitted on December 15 following breathing problems and infections in throat and lung after which he underwent a tracheostomy to optimise breathing.
