Egmore court moved to probe Jayalalithaa’s death
A fortnight after former CM J Jayalalithaa’s death, a private complaint was filed on December 19 at the Chief Metropolitan Court in Egmore alleging suspicion in her death.
Chennai
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate J Chandran, who heard the case, adjourned it to December 26. The private complaint moved by one KS Gita of Alwarpet, claimed that she and her family were friends with Jayalalithaa until the entry of VK Sasikala into Poes Garden. She also noted that her mother late Sarojini and Jayalalithaa’s mother Sandhya were close friends and that she had joined the AIADMK in 1992 based on Jayalalithaa’s invitation.
Gita contended that a strong suspicion remains over Jayalalithaa’s death and that she must have been murdered by Sasikala, M Natarajan and J Illavarasi in collusion with Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman Apollo Hospitals, to grab the vast property as well as power and position by some illegal means. Including as many as 20 persons as respondents in the plea which included Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Lok Sabha, deputy speaker, M Thambidurai, state Secretaries, Commissioner of Police and even the agency which made the coffin for Jayalalithaa, she claimed that utter mystery prevailed for 75 days from the date of her admission to the hospital.
She alleged that during the period she was in the hospital none including the Governors of Tamil Nadu and Kerala were allowed to see or meet her. Also, the plea pointed out that the government’s failure to release medical bulletins as was done in the case of former CMs Annadurai and MGR revealed that all control has been taken over by vested interests. The plea also sought for a direction to preserve the camera footage at Poes Garden and Apollo Hospitals.
