Student held for theft of 300 sovereigns, 5 kg silver, car
The city police have arrested two persons, including a college student, suspected to have been involved in several cases of waylaying and theft in houses across the city and a search is on for two more college students.

Sources said that they had stolen around 300 sovereigns of jewels, 5 kg of silver articles, Rs 15 lakh in cash and a car worth Rs 18 lakh. Police recovered 93 sovereigns of jewels, three kg silver, Rs 1.20 lakh in cash and the car.Â
According to sources, a police team was involved in vehicle check on Olayur Road in KK Nagar during late hours on Sunday. During the drive, the team intercepted a black car, reportedly with a fake number plate, in which two persons were travelling.Â
During subsequent inquiries the two persons, who identified themselves as N Durai alias Duraisamy (36) of MGR Colony, Puthur and G Abilash (19), a college student from Thendran Nagar Tiruchy, admitted to having committed thefts in several places across the city and in neighbouring districts.
During a detailed interrogation, the duo spilled the beans saying that they along with two other college students A Hariharan (19) and S Albin Jerome (19), were involved in robberies in more than 30 places in Tiruchy city and suburban areas, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Theni, Dindigul and Sivaganga districts. The duo confessed that they had stolen 300 sovereigns of jewels, Rs 15 lakh in cash, five kg of silver articles and a car worth Rs 18 lakh.Â
Based on the information given by the two, cops went to various places and recovered 93 sovereigns of jewels, three kg silver and the car. Both Duraisamy and Abilash were lodged in the Tiruchy prison.
