Addressing reporters in Coimbatore on Tuesday after taking part in the party’s state working committee meeting, SDPI state president KKSM Dehlan Baqavi made an appeal to AIADMK and people of Tamil Nadu not to give way to religious politics in Tamil Nadu. “People should be vigilant,” he said. Lauding the precautionary efforts taken by the Tamil Nadu Government to handle the impact of Cyclone Vardah that struck Chennai on Monday, he urged the government to desilt water bodies in Chennai and in the rest of the state. He wanted the government to remove encroachments from them to minimise the impact of natural disasters. Baqavi also called the BJP’s demonetisation, to put an end to circulation of black money, a failure. Stating that it has badly affected the common man and traders, he said the party is planning to organise a series of protests against the Union Government for the ongoing crisis in the pretext of an exercise for betterment of the nation. He urged the police to nab the real accused in the murder of Hindu Munnani functionary Sasi Kumar (at Thudiyalur in Coimbatore on September 22) and to avoid harassment of Muslim youth for inquiry. The SDPI leader claimed that traders and victim of the violence following Sasi Kumar’s murder are yet to be compensated.
