State leaders pay homage to Jayalalithaa
As a tribute to the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, many AIADMK cadre tonsured at Perur in Coimbatore. They were led by Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani and the Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Pollachi M Jayaraman.

MLAs PRG Arun Kumar (Coimbatore North), Amman Arjunan (Coimbatore South), OK Chinnaraj (Mettupalayam), VC Arukutty (Kavundampalayam), R Kanagaraj (Sulur) and A Shanmugam (Kinathukadavu) and other party functionaries followed suit. Later they paid homage to the portrait of the late Chief Minister. Free food was served at temples. Velumani told reporters that the cadre wanted Sasikala to take over as the party general secretary. He said that it was because Sasikala had been a pillar of strength for late Jayalalithaa for more than three decades. Earlier thousands of cadre, from various political parties went on a silent procession from Sivanandha Colony to Theppakulam Ground in the city. In Tirupur too, a silent procession was organised.
