Jayalalithaa took care of school needs like a mother, say students
“Whenever I open my laptop I remember ‘ Amma ’ who had given it for me” claimed Aishwarya, a class 12 student studying in a management school at Madurai. Thousands of students like Aishwarya have thanked former Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, for the special schemes implemented for the students community.

After three days mourning following the death of Jayalalithaa the schools had reopened on Friday and all the schools in Madurai observed silence and paid respect for Jayalalithaa. In some of the schools, teachers spoke about the short history of Jayalalithaa. Following the reopening of schools, gloom descended over as most students and teachers were seen dejected. Most even cried during the prayers offered for Jayalalithaa. Following the prayers students elaborated about some of the the special schemes that were implemented for them.
Speaking to the media, Aishwarya said that though there were lot of schemes implemented by ‘ Amma ’, she was always in awe about the schemes that were specially introduced for the students. Among them giving laptops to students is the best as it has benefited a large number of students from poor and less privileged background. “Studying in government and government-aided schools, these children could never dream of a laptops for themselves,” she said. She could not believe that ‘ Amma’ was no more.
“Whenever we open our laptops we are strongly reminded of the noble soul who had so thoughtfully lend a helping hand to so many spheres of life” said some of the students. The little ones also remembered some of the other schemes such as free school bags. “It had established the concept of uniformity as all the school students have same bags given by the government,” they added.
Children recall benefits
All the schools in the city observed a two minute silence in remembrance of the late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. They recalled how the late CM was particular in uplifting the school education system and supported the students. On Friday when the educational institutions re-opened after three days, a special assembly was conducted and a two-minute silence was observed in front of the portrait of the late Chief Minister. The remembrance meet was held in schools across the region. The students who gave a floral tribute to the portrait of the late CM were seen moved and recalled how they were benefited through the special schemes such as note books, bags, stationery materials, bags, uniform and cycle. In a few schools, prayers were chanted for her soul to rest in peace.
Tribute with lamps
In Chennai, students of Everwin Matriculation and Higher Secondary School and suburban Kolathur today paid rich tributes to late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa by forming her image in human form with earthen lamps. About 3,000 students of the school made the formation with lights in their hands. As dusk descended on the school playground, the students formed the human image of the late chief minister as a mark of paying tributes to her. It looked like a giant portrait of Jayalalithaa when viewed from the roof top. School Correspondent B Purushothaman said it was a small tribute to the People’s Chief Minister.
