    Kenyan youth rapes fellow student in Salem

    City police on December 3, arrested a Kenyan youth for allegedly raping a girl from the same country, who was studying in a private college.

    The police said that the victim was a 25-year-old girl pursuing second year MSc Biotechnology in AVS Arts and Science College, near Ayothiyapattinam. Like many other students of the college, she stayed in a rented house at Athigaripatty. According to the police the accused, Swaraj assures justice to US  rape victim (25) studied MCA in the same college. It is said that the accused, who passed out of college last year, stayed back to clear the arrears papers. He stayed in a rented accommodation in the same area where the victim lived. Preliminary inquiry by police revealed that the youth had been trying to get closer to her for a while, but in vain. It is said that on Friday night, he went to the victim’s house in the pretext of starting a conversation with her, but raped her. The girl who sustained injuries as a result of the brutal act regained consciousness on Saturday morning. Neighbours and friends admitted her at the Salem Government Medical College Hospital. The Ammapet All Woman Police, based on the victim’s complaint, booked Eric under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code and lodged him in the Salem Central Prison under judicial custody. The Salem police has also sought assistance from the Kenyan Embassy for further action in the case.

    Swaraj assures justice to US rape victim

    A day after the Delhi police received an e-mail complaint from a US national claiming that she was gang-raped by five men, including a tourist guide, at a five-star hotel near Connaught Place earlier this year, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday asked Indian Ambassador in Washington Navtej Sarna to contact the victim to assure her that the guilty will be brought to book. Meanwhile, police have booked five men in connection with the incident, an official said on Saturday.
