NEW DELHI: Former India wicketkeeper-batter and former member of the senior selection committee Saba Karim believes that the present moment is a critical one for the head coach of the men’s team Rahul Dravid with two major occasions, T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup coming up in the near future.

Since Dravid was appointed the men’s coach after Ravi Shastri left the job, India got huge success in winning bilateral T20I series against New Zealand, West Indies (twice), Sri Lanka, England and drawing against South Africa.

At the Asia Cup 2022, where India entered as the defending champions and were victorious in their group games against Pakistan and Hong Kong. However, losses to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Super Four meant they were not playing in the final, and they ended their participation with an innings of 101 against Afghanistan and sparked doubts about India’s preparation in advance of the T20 World Cup in Australia in October and November.

“Well it seems that Rahul Dravid knows that the honeymoon is over and he is trying to become an alchemist, but at this point, these metals haven’t yet been transformed into the core.It is expected of him to convert them.

This is the time to be a winner for Rahul Dravid.

“With the World Cup T20 coming up and next year, the ODI World Cup coming up.These two important ICC events If India is able to win both of these championships, only Rahul Dravid would be happy with the type of contributions he has provided to the team India,” said Karim on the show ‘Sports over The Top show on Sports18.

Karim also spoke about the inconsistent results under Dravid’s guidance including losing out on winning Test series in South Africa and England this year.”If you had the chance, Rahul Dravid would love to win those Test series in South Africa and the final Test game in England. He would love to exchange those with numerous bilateral successes that India has won under his under his belt.

But that’s just the nature of the challenges Rahul Dravid will have to overcome.

“See Rahul is sensible and smart enough to realize the sole possible way he will be able to define success in the time of his coaching career that India is number one wins ICC events, and secondly, it begins to win Test series in SENA countries. This isn’t talking about wins in Tests.

“Test wins even when Rahul Dravid played, India has done that. And, more importantly when India begins winning in SENA nations, like the Test series will be the time the time Rahul Dravid is sure to be satisfied with India’s team’s performance.”
