Mumbai City meets struggling Odisha

After uncharacteristic performances in its opening two games, Mumbai City FC (MCFC) looked to have hit its stride in the 3-0 drubbing over SC East Bengal (SCEB) on Wednesday.

Sergio Lobera’s side will look to continue its run when it faces Odisha FC (OFC) in the Indian Super League (ISL) Season 7 at the GMC Stadium here on Sunday. Mumbai City will be on a high, coming off a dominant show, and a win against Odisha will help it go level on points – nine – with current table-topper ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB).

The likes of Ahmed Jahouh, Rowllin Borges and Adam le Fondre were in sublime form against East Bengal and MCFC will be hard to beat should they continue in the same vein. Mumbai City was touted as one of the teams to watch out for before the league even began, but head coach Lobera is not getting distracted by the expectations.

“For me, there are no favourites,” he said. “This season is a very different one with special circumstances. My focus is on my team and I need to improve it. We have won a couple of games but there are a lot of things we need to improve upon.” Mumbai City’s opponent Odisha is not in the best of form and has only a solitary point so far, but the Spanish coach expects a tough fight from it. Odisha boss Stuart Baxter has problems all over the pitch. His side has managed to score just twice in three games and has been leaking goals at the back, with the defence making multiple errors.

In the other game on ‘Super Sunday’, FC Goa and Kerala Blasters FC (KBFC) will seek their first win of the season at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. Both sides have two points from three matches.
