IPL: Chennai and Rajasthan in desperate need of a win
Sailing in the same boat, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will lock horns in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Monday with the knowledge that any more slip-up could dash their play-off hopes.
Both CSK and RR have six points from nine games, but the three-time champion is placed above on net run rate. With just five matches each remaining for both sides, the road ahead is going to be a tough and tricky one, and they know that they cannot afford any more lapses. Super Kings as well as Royals come into the all-important contest on the back of losses.
While the MS Dhoni-led team went down to Delhi Capitals (DC) in Sharjah, Rajasthan, captained by Steve Smith, was defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Dubai. The blow for CSK is bigger as its influential all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out for at least a few days due to a groin injury.
After bringing life to its campaign with a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), CSK was done in by sloppy fielding. Dropped a number of times, Delhi opener Shikhar Dhawan hit a IPL hundred to hand Super Kings its sixth loss. It was a nightmarish outing for the CSK fielders as they dropped Dhawan twice, apart from failing to latch on to a half chance and a run-out opportunity. And, Dhoni would seek improvement in that department.
