Pliskova moves into French Open second round
Second seed Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) found a way past Egyptian qualifier Mayar Sherif with a 6-7(9), 6-2, 6-4 victory in the opening round of the French Open.

Facing Grand Slam main draw debutant Sherif for the first time, Pliskova had constant trouble with the return of the Egyptian’s serve but managed to eke out a win. Meanwhile, in men’s singles, seventh seed Matteo Berrettini of Italy cantered into the second round with a 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 victory against Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
