Trio helps Madras CC collect 5 points

At the MRF - Pachaiyappa’s College ‘A’ Ground, openers Karthik and Gopinath and middle-order batsman Akshay contributed heavily to help Madras get past Trotters’ first innings total of 417. At close of play, Madras was 426 for three in 90.5 overs, with it taking five points, courtesy of its superior showing in the opening exchanges.

Birthday boy Karthik played patiently, striking 13 boundaries during his 207-ball stay in the middle. Gopinath’s first century of the season included eight fours and a maximum, while Akshay’s quick-fire 88-ball knock was laced with 12 fours and four sixes.

At the IC – Guru Nanak College Ground, Vijay CC thrashed Swaraj CC by an innings and 61 runs to take home six points. In the first innings, where Swaraj fell for 106, Vijay wicketkeeper Narayan Jagadeesan was involved in half the dismissals, taking five catches.
