Goa’s Jahouh sounds confident ahead of ISL play-offs

While attackers Ferran Corominas and Hugo Boumous earn most of the plaudits for their dazzling display in front of goal, FC Goa’s defensive midfielder Ahmed Jahouh silently contributes to his club’s success year in year out. The Moroccan has been a mainstay in the Goa starting eleven for the past three years and has the ability to spray passes with ease.

Jahouh sat down with DT Next for a quick chat on Friday, sharing his thoughts on the semi-final first leg between Chennaiyin FCand Goa.

Excerpts:

Table-topper FC Goa did the double over Chennaiyin FC in the league stage. Is that in any way a confidence booster going into the play-offs?

No, those games are done. We have to forget about those as we were up against different coaches (Owen Coyle and John Gregory).

FC Goa has had more time to recover (than Chennaiyin FC) for the semi-final first leg. Do you think fatigue will play a part on Saturday?

When you play every three days, it is always nice. It is better than playing once in a week or 10 days. Yes, we did have more days to recover than CFC. But, I actually feel it is good for Chennaiyin.

How prepared is the team for the two-legged semi-finals?

We are confident. But, we are missing some of our players for the knockouts. The most important thing is that we have others in the squad who are capable of doing the same job well. In the upcoming matches, we need to play well and qualify for the final.

FC Goa is chasing a maiden ISL title. Do you think the team can go all the way this time?

Yes, I hope. We have been gunning for it for the last three years. The club, including the players, staff and management, have prepared well (to go the distance).

Chennaiyin FC, which is on an eight-game unbeaten streak, is in red-hot form. What is your opinion on the turnaround CFC has managed?

CFC has become stronger under Owen Coyle. Chennaiyin’s players are working hard and the new coach is doing a good job. Having moved from the bottom of the league to the play-offs, the side has done very well (to come this far).
