Madhya Pradesh secures crucial lead against Tamil Nadu
Madhya Pradesh consolidated its position against Tamil Nadu on the second day of the Elite Group ‘B’ Ranji Trophy match in Indore on Thursday. At stumps, the host had reached 281 for seven with a lead of 132 runs. Mihir Hirwani was batting on 54 (76b, 7x4) and keeping him company was Avesh Khan batting on seven.

Resuming from its overnight score of 56 for three, Madhya Pradesh lost two early wickets and was precariously placed at 84 for five. Tamil Nadu left-arm fast bowler T Natarajancontinued from where he left off claiming the wicketsof Yash Dubey for 12 runs and wicketkeeper Himanshu Mantri for two.
But the host didn’t cave in thanks to an invaluable partnership between opener Rameez Khan who made 87 (162b, 13x4) and Venkatesh Iyer who scored a gritty 88 (125b, 12x4). The duo added 112 runs for the sixth wicket to go past TN’s score of 149.
Just when it looked like Rameez was looking set to complete a deserving century, M Mohammed removed him caught by Kousik Gandhi. Mihir walked in and, along with Iyer, kept the scoreboard ticking frustrating the TN bowlers.
Among the bowlers, Natarajan returned impressive figures of four for 96, while K Vignesh took two for 81. Lanky left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore bowled only six overs.
