Tamil Nadu women suffered a 71-run hammering at the hands of Maharashtra in the BCCI Women Under-23 Group E T20 duel in Puducherry on Wednesday.

Having won the toss and chose to bat, Maharashtra never got going courtesy good spells from SB Keerthana (4/15) and C Shushanthika (2/14). It could only manage 119 for nine in its stipulated overs. Chasing a not so challenging total, Tamil Nadu batters fell like a pack of cards. Maya Sonawane (4/15) and Utkarsha Pawar (2/4) weaved their magic as Tamil Nadu was all out for a paltry 48 in 16.5 overs.
Brief scores: Maharashtra 119 for 9 in 20 overs (Sakshi Kanadi 31, Charmy Gavai 28, SB Keerthana 4/15, C Shushanthika 2/14) beat Tamil Nadu 48 all-out in 16.5 overs (Maya Sonawane 4/15, Utkarsha Pawar 2/4).
Hyderabad on front foot
Hyderabad dominated second day’s play and bowled out Tamil Nadu for 127 in the first innings of the Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 South Zone game at the NPR College Ground in Natham on Wednesday. In reply to Hyderabad’s opening innings total of 261, the home side struggled with the bat. A Badrinath (27), S Mohamed Ali (35) and K Wafar (39) were the only three batsmen to get past the 25-run mark. Pranav Varma (3/20) was the wreaker-in-chief for the tourist, taking three wickets. At stumps on the penultimate day, Hyderabad was 46 for three in the second innings with an overall lead of 180.

Tamil Nadu beats Punjab
GV Vignesh (56) and K Vishal Vaidhya (51) struck half-centuries as Tamil Nadu defeated Punjab by 63 runs in the BCCI Men Under-23 Elite A One-Day contest in Mysuru on Wednesday. Batting first, Vignesh and Vishal guided Tamil Nadu to a decent total of 221 for eight. Ikjot Singh Thind (4/28) was the pick of the Punjab bowlers, scalping four. Defending less than five runs an over, Tamil Nadu did brilliantly with the ball to skittle out Punjab for 158 in 44.4 overs.
Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 221 for 8 in 50 overs (GV Vignesh 56, S Radhakrishnan 25, K Vishal Vaidhya 51, Nidish Rajagopal 39, Ikjot Singh Thind 4/28) beat Punjab 158 all-out in 44.4 overs.
