Clippers defeats Lakers on opening NBA night

Kawhi Leonard picked up from where he left off last season, pouring in 30 points, to lead Los Angeles Clippers to a 112-102 win over Los Angeles Lakers on the opening NBA night at the STAPLES Center.

Courtesy the success, the early bragging rights went to Clippers. While it was a Clippers home game, it was a sea of purple and gold in the stands, with the Laker-heavy crowd booing Kawhi. But the reigning Finals MVP had the last laugh. Clippers, which had an eight-point (62-54) lead at half-time, came good in the final quarter to begin on a positive note.

Toronto Raptors overcame a slow start to secure a thrilling overtime 130-122 win over New Orleans Pelicans. Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet combined for 68 points, the second-most ever by a Raptors duo in a season opener.

After a historic ring ceremony and unveiling of the championship banner, Raptors overcame some early jitters and dug out of a hole to beat Pelicans.
