Manjeet (9 points) and Nitin Tomar (8 points) were the chief contributors for Puneri, which notched up its fourth victory in the competition. It now has 25 points after 11 matches, while Titans has 23 from the same. Despite a record-setting defensive display, which saw it come up with seven ‘Super Tackles’, Telugu could not succeed.

Puneri dominated the initial minutes, thwarting Siddharth Desai’s raids while Tomar picked up invaluable raid points at the other end. But Titans defender Vishal Bhardwaj sparked off a series of ‘Super Tackles’ and was ably supported by Abozar Mighani and C Arun. The defence produced five such moments in the first half, but it was not enough to prevent an all-out in the last minute.

Courtesy the clean sweep, Puneri went into the breather with a three-point cushion at 17-14. Siddharth Desai was in no mood to let Paltan dominate him and started off positively, picking four points from as many raids. But the TT defenders failed to replicate their first half form as Manjeet came up with a ‘Super Raid’ four minutes after the restart.

That move helped Puneri open up a six-point cushion and coach Anup Kumar brought in another defender to solidify things. Tomar reached a milestone of 400 Pro Kabaddi points towards the latter stages as Paltan saw out a late challenge from the Telugu side.

    100 per cent record

Dabang Delhi made it four wins on the trot with a 38-35 success over Patna Pirates.

Raider Naveen Kumar continued to dazzle for the home side, picking up 15 points. No other Delhi player managed to score more than five points. Pardeep Narwal (18 points) was the top-scorer for Patna. The Ram Mehar Singh-coached unit languishes at the bottom of the table, with 19 points from 11 matches. Delhi (49 points off 11 games) is at the top.
