Thirunelveli

Chepauk Super Gillies will strive to make it two wins on the trot when it meets iDream Karaikudi Kaalai in the Sankar Cement Tamil Nadu Premier League Season 4 at the ICL Sankar Nagar Ground here on Friday.

CSG comes into the contest on the back of a commanding 41-run win over Ruby Trichy Warriors on Tuesday. The 2017 title-winner had lost a close duel against Ravichandran Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons in the tournament opener. Both competing teams have one victory under their belt in two games.

Left-arm spinner Ramadoss Alexandar wreaked havoc against Trichy Warriors, taking five wickets for a meagre nine runs. He will once again look to spin some magic alongside the more-experienced Murugan Ashwin. Alexandar is currently on top of the bowling chart with eight scalps from two matches.

Captain Kaushik Gandhi has had a tough start to the new season, getting just a solitary run from the first two fixtures. He will hope to get more on the board as we are inching closer to the middle phase of the eight-team competition. Top-order batsman KH Gopinath and the big-hitting S Harish Kumar played aggressively against Trichy Warriors and head coach Hemang Badani will would want more of the same from the duo.

Pacemen D Rahul and G Periyaswamy, with a combined tally of four wickets, will aim to get into their own as soon as possible. Karaikudi is now low on moral after losing by 110 runs at the hands of VB Kanchi Veerans. Chasing 178 for a success, Anirudha Srkkanth-led Karaikudi surrendered meekly, getting bowled out for a paltry 67 in 14.4 overs.

Only three batters managed to cross the 10-run mark and that is a huge cause for concern ahead of the upcoming match. Only a better batting performance and disciplined bowling effort can guide it to its second triumph in the event.
