Income Tax scores close win over Indian Bank

At the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Income Tax came up trumps with a scoreline of 25-17, 18-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11. Customs (Chennai) and ICF (Chennai) also made it to the last four of the competition. While Customs defeated Income Tax (Chennai) 25-18, 25-18, 25-22, ICF beat Tamil Nadu Police 25-18, 25-19, 25-15. Defending champion SRM University thumped Karnataka State 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11.

In the Income Tax-Indian Bank match-up, IT clinched the opener 25-17. But IB drew parity by winning the second set 25-18. IT restored its one-set advantage, thanks to its dominant showing in the third set, which it won 25-21. IB levelled for the second time in the duel, succeeding 25-23. In the all-important decider, the men from Gujarat turned out to be better (15-11).

In the women’s section, SAI (Thalachery) and South Central Railway will fight it out for the title on Saturday. SAI got the better of ICF (Chennai) 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 26-24 in the sem-finals. South Central Railway beat Dr Sivanthi Club 25-8, 25-21, 22-25, 25-11 in another last four clash.
