Son of soil Ashwin elated to be back

After representing Chennai Super Kings in seven Indian Premier League editions, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin returned to his own patch, donning the away colours.
Son of soil Ashwin elated to be back

Ashwin’s Kings XI Punjab had locked horns with CSK twice in the previous season, but not at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The match-up at Chepauk also marked the duel between Chennai’s adopted son Mahendra Singh Dhoni and son of the soil Ashwin.
The 32-year-old was elated to return to the arena where he plays his domestic cricket. “It’s quite emotional to be honest. It’s also a game where I am sort of looking forward to the crowd backing us, which is not going to happen, I guess. I am very happy to be back, it’s been a while since I played here. Playing against CSK is an emotional moment, but I am looking forward to it,” said Ashwin during the toss.
The Kings XI skipper had a productive day, scalping three against his former employer. He got into the thick of things straightaway, bowling the second over in the first innings. Certain sections of the local fans cheered him, but the majority was loyal to the home franchise.
The offie started with a carrom ball and delivered a peach later in the over. Ashwin came back into the attack after the Powerplay and got rid of Aussie Watson. In his final over, he bagged the wickets of Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina to cap off a great spell. As usual, it was another sell-out crowd and the ‘Den’ was packed to capacity.
