India men and women scored identical 3.5-0.5 wins in the fifth round of the Chess Olympiad in Batumi on Friday. While India men led by Viswanathan Anand swamped Paraguay, India women routed Argentina.

Viswanathan Anand needed only 26 moves to beat Neuris Delgado (2619) on the top board. Anand unleashed the Rossolimo Attack against Delgado’s Sicilian and found a decisive combination involving his Queen, bishop and rook.
Harikrishna struggled with black against Vazquez in Nimzo Indian to reach an opposite coloured bishop ending. The draw came after four hours.
In the meantime, Baskaran Adhiban beat Almiron on the third board and Krishnan Sasikiran played spectacular chess against Werjivker Jodorcovsky in Kings Indian Defence Four Pawns Attack. With black, Sasikiran sacrificed his Queen for rook and bishop to promote his central passers and win in 35 moves.
Koneru Humpy struck on the top board against C Lujan as India women dominated Argentina. Tania Sachdev and Eesha Karavade scored full points against Fernandez and Martinez respectively as India took a 3-0 lead before Dronavalli Harika conceded a draw on the second board.
