TNPL 2018: Lyca Kovai Kings thrash Madurai Panthers by 8 wickets
Lyca Kovai Kings won their must-win game and in the process ended the 5-match winning streak of Madurai Panthers.
Thirunelveli
Kings opening batsman Shahrukh Khan got them off to a flier by smashing 29 runs in 24 balls with 3 fours and 1 six to his tally. The 103-target posted by the Panthers was an easy chase and the Kings had the run rate well under control.Â
Although the Kings lost both the openers during the chase, wicketkeeper Ravi Kumar Rohith played a cameo of 34* runs and orchestrated a 56-run partnership with Ashwin Venkataraman which helped the Kings cross the line with ease.
Earlier in the match, Lyca Kovai Kings' bowlers tamed the Madurai Panthers' batsmen today with most of the getting out for single digit scores.
The Panthers started off on the wrong foot with both the opening batsmen departing with the first three overs of the match.Â
Out of the 10 batsmen who came out to bat only 3 touched the double digit runs. With the highest score being 32* scored by Jagatheesan Kousik. The last over of the match was fruitful for the Panthers with 15 runs coming off it.Â
Kings bowler Vignesh got both the opening duo out by his second over, including the in-form batsman Arun Karthik for just 1 run. The Kings spinners came in the middle overs and kept the run rate and batsmen in check, which ensured that the Panthers never got the momentum they required.
Kousik and Chakravathi stitched an unbeaten 44-run stand partnership for the Panthers which helped them cross the 100-run mark.
Brief Scores: Lyca Kovai Kings 107/2 (Ravi Kumar Rohith 34*, Shahrukh Khan 29; R Karthikeyan 1/16) beat Madurai Panthers 103/8 (Jagatheesan Kousik 32*, Varun Chakravathi 20*; Krishnamoorthy Vignesh 2/23) by 8 wickets.
