TNPL 2018: Chepauk Super Gillies eyes maiden win
Defending champion Chepauk Super Gillies will look for its first win in the Tamil Nadu Premier League Season 3 when it takes on Kanchi Veerans at the NPR College Ground in Natham on Tuesday.
Chennai
Both teams are out of the race for a spot in the Play-offs in the eight-team competition. Only the top-four teams make the cut. Gillies lost its fifth match in as many outings when it went down to Tuti Patriots at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Saturday.Â
Veerans toppled Kovai Kings by 14 runs on Sunday in Tirunelveli for its first win in the competition. Batting first, Veerans was restricted to 116/8 but the young bunch managed to turn things around with impressive bowling and fielding.
Left-arm spinner Aushik Srinivas picked up three crucial wickets while conceding only 12 runs to help script a sensational win. Gillies put up an improved performance against Tuti Patriots but it was not enough to fetch it a win.
Gillies’ top order gave a good start but the middle-order failed to capitalize and the total was eventually 15-20 runs short. Wet conditions following a rain stoppage made it difficult to grip the ball when it was its turn to bowl. Both teams will be playing for pride. Kanchi Veerans has never defeated Super Gillies in the two previous meetings between the teams.
