Yash Fadte moves into third round
India’s top player Yash Fadte defeated German Abdel-Rahman Ghait to move into the third round of the World Junior Squash Championship at the Indian Squash Academy here.

Yash narrowly lost the first game 10-12 but came back in fine fashion to finish the match in four games. He won the second, third and fourth games with scores of 11-7 11-7 and 11-6 respectively. Singapore’s Kieran Tan was no match to India’s number one as he succumbed to a 3-11 3-11 4-11 loss in the first round.
Another Indian in the fray, Rahul Baitha, beat Nils Roesch in straight sets. He came up trumps over the Swiss with a scoreline of 11-5 12-10 11-8. In the first round, he had secured a 11-8 12-10 12-10 win over the United States of America’s Eric Kim.
Top seed Marwan Tarek thumped Advait Adik 11-5 11-7 11-7 in the second round. Only half-an-hour was required for the Egyptian to get past his first hurdle. Advait had got past Zimbabwe’s Harry Lawton 11-5 11-5 11-2 during the morning session’s opening round.
Utkarsh Baheti was also knocked out of the individual championship courtesy a loss against Nils Schwab. The match went on for five sets but the German booked his spot in the third round with an 8-11 11-7 11-9 5-11 11-7 win. Sankalp Anand was the only Indian to bow out in the opening round as he suffered a 9-11 11-9 5-11 8-11 loss at the hands of Hong Kong’s Chan Chi Ho.
The women juniors individual event is set to kick-start on Thursday with the centre of attraction on top seeds from Egypt, Rowan Reda Araby and Hania El Hammamy. Local lass Ashita Bhengra will be up against Australia’s Grace Pattison. If she manages to emerge victorious, she will battle it out against top seed Reda Araby for a place in the third round.
