Abhisheka wins ISA Junior Open

The local lass got the better of her opponent with a scoreline of 11-9 9-11 12-10 11-8. She got off the blocks well by clinching the first set 11-9. The contest evened up as Gurlin won the second 11-9. Abhisheka then held her nerve to bag a closely-fought third set 12-10 and then finished the proceedings by winning the fourth 11-8. She was the only local player to come first on home soil. 

Another Chennai-based player, Samita Sivakumar fell in straight sets to top-seed Sanya Vats in the girls Under-17 category final. Sanya ended up victorious with a score of 11-7, 11-5, 11-4. In the boys section, Rajasthan’s Utkarsh Baheti, one of the country’s top emerging talents, defeated Rahul Baitha 12-10 5-11 11-8 9-11 12-10 to top the charts in the Under-19 category. In the battle between the Maharashtrian boys, top-seed Shreyas Mehta beat Mohit Bhatt 14-12 11-5 11-5.
