Monu Goyat shatters record in PKL 6 auction

Monu Goyat, whose performance was overshadowed by Pardeep Narwal’s heroics in Pro Kabaddi League Season 5, shattered the all-time record for the highest-paid player after he was snapped up by Haryana Steelers for a whopping Rs 1.51 crore in PKL 6 Auction.

“The coaches are confident of his abilities and we are sure he will take the role of the number one raider in our team. We hope to balance our squad out accordingly tomorrow (Thursday),” Haryana Steelers co-owner Mustafa Ghouse sounded optimistic after buying him. Dabang Delhi and U Mumba were involved in a bidding war, but Steelers jumped into the race out of nowhere and picked up the raider.

Telugu Titans managed to get hold of Rahul Chaudhari again, but had to pay an astounding tally of Rs 1.29 crore. Delhi was in the mood earlier as well as it snapped up Rishank Devadiga for Rs 1.11 crore only for it to be match by his former employer UP Yoddha.

All-rounder Deepak Niwas Hooda and Nitin Tomar were also beneficiaries of the opening day as they were picked up by Jaipur Pink Panthers and Puneri Paltan respectively for Rs 1.15 crore each.

“I am extremely excited, but I understand my responsibilities in the upcoming PKL 6. I feel proud today! I will definitely miss Pune because I played 3 seasons with them and got to know them quite well. I am now going home to celebrate this incredible day with my sister and her children,” said Deepak Hooda, who was one of the top buys of the day. Having lost Deepak Hooda, Paltan went all guns blazing for the services raider and emerged victorious in the bidding battle.

In the Category A defenders, Surender Nada was right in the thick of things as he was sold to Pink Panthers for Rs 75 lakh, but Steelers exercised the “Final Bid Match” option. In all, six players had the privilege of crossing the Rs 1 crore mark on the first day of the PKL 6 auction, with the franchises splurging a lot of cash on them.
