MGCA romped to an eight-wicket win over Skylab CA in the Thiruvallur DCA-Puratham U-12 inter-Academy tournament on Monday. After bowling out Skylab CA for 30 with Gotam Pratap taking three wickets for six runs, MGCA lost two wickets before reaching the target in 3.4 overs.

Brief scores: Servion Global Solutions 146/8 in 30 overs (Raghunathan 36, Sriram Sangameswaran 40) lost to YSCA 149 for no loss in 21.2 overs (P. Raghavendra 76*, G. Nagarajan 49*); IBM 134 in 27.4 overs (Vijay Raja 26, Mobiles 31, C. Kubendran 4/21) lost to Apollo Tyres 138/5 in 24.4 overs (A. Prithviraj 56, Yaar Ali 28*).
Asrani wins gold in junior and Cadet TTÂ
Young Indian table tennis players continued their good run in the SET Thailand Junior and Cadet Open, part of the ITTF World Junior Circuit (Golden Series), adding one more gold and two bronze medals in the singles events late on Sunday in Bangkok. Havish Asrani, spearheading India’s challenge in the Junior Boys’ category, displayed great skill and ability to wallop Kai Shan Man of Hong Kong 3-0 to annex the title.Â
Earlier in the Round of Four, he beat Yi Cheng Jaevier Wong of Singapore 3-0. In the Cadet Boys’ singles, Payas Jain walloped Minwoo Kim of Korea 3-2 in a hard-fought match to make it to the medal round. He was up against a formidable Peng Xiang of China in the semis and went down fighting 1-3 to be content with a bronze. In the Girls’ Singles, Suhana Saina beat Natch Supawatanakul of Thailand 3-0 to qualify for the medal round. She, however, capitulated 0-3 against Taemin Kim of Korea in the semis to settle for a bronze.
