The city-based paddler Sharath Kamal bagged three medals at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia. He won the gold in the men’s team championship, bronze in the men’s singles and silver in the men’s doubles partnering fellow TN player, G. Sathiyan.

Returning from Australia, Sharath Kamal received a grand reception at the Chennai airport from family, SDAT officials, table tennis coaches, players and their parents, who came in large numbers to get a glimpse of their Commonwealth star.

Sharath Kamal, who has been training in SDAT AKG, under the able guidance of the Rao brothers (Srinivasa Rao and Muralidhar Rao), started his Commonwealth Games medal spree from the Melbourne Games in 2006.

He won 2 gold medals there, one gold and two bronze in the Delhi Games in 2010 and followed by one silver at the Glasgow Games in 2014 in the men’s doubles partnering fellow TN player Antony Amalraj. He has won a total of 9 Commonwealth Games medals so far.
