    CWG 2018: India hammers Pakistan in mixed doubles squash

    India’s mixed doubles pair of Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghosal hammered Pakistan’s Madina Zafar and Tayyab Aslam 2-0 in a Pool E encounter of the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Tuesday.

    The Indian pair hardly lost any sweat to outclass their arch-rival 11-2, 11-3 at the Oxenford Studios here in merely 13 minutes. Earlier in the day, the Indian duo comfortably whipped past Guyana’s Mary Fung-a-Fat and Jason-Ray Khalil 2-0 at the same venue. The Indians took a bare 13 minutes to breeze past the Guyana pair 11-3, 11-3. 

    Later in the day, India’s mixed double pair comprising Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Pal Sandhu defeated Caroline Laing and Jacob Kelly of Cayman Islands 2-0 in a Pool E match. 

    The Indian duo outclassed their opponents 11-3, 11-6 and wrapped up the issue in 15 minutes at the Oxenford Studios here. Right from the start, the Indian players seemed solid. However, in the second game, their opponents tried to bounce back but at the end the Indian duo proved to be better. 

    CWG 2018: PARA-LIFTER SACHIN SETTLES FOR BRONZE 

    India’s para-lifter Sachin Chaudhary settled for the bronze in men’s heavyweight category at the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Tuesday. Sachin lifted the combined effort of 181 points. Nigeria’s Abdulazeez Ibrahim won the gold with 191.9 points while the silver went to Malaysia’s Yee Khie Jong (188.7). In his first two attempts, Sachin failed to lift 201 kg but he did it in the final attempt to finish in the top-three.

    CWG 2018: INDIAN PARA PADDLERS DISAPPOINT IN WOMEN’S SINGLES 

    Indian para paddlers disappointed on day 6 of the 21st Commonwealth Games with Vaishnavi Sutar and Maitreyee Sarkar losing their respective women’s TT6-10 singles group matches here on Tuesday. Maitreyee went down 0-3 (3-11, 1-11, 3-11) in straight games to Australian Melissa Tapper in a group 1 match at the Oxenford Studios here. She will next face Papua New Guinea’s Vero Nime on Wednesday. Earlier, Vaishnavi also lost 0-3 to Canada’s Stephanie Chan in a group 2 match at the same venue. Vaishnavi failed to put up a fight in any of the three games to go down meekly 1-11, 2-11, 3-11 to the Canadian. The Indian will next take on Faith Obazuaye of Nigeria on Wednesday.

    CWG 2018: SAKINA FINISHES 5TH IN LIGHTWEIGHT PARA POWERLIFTING 

    India’s Sakina Khatun finished a disappointing fifth out of seven competitors in women’e lightweight para powerlifting at the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Tuesday. Sakina, the bronze medallist in Glasgow in 2014, finished with 93.2 points to finish fifth of seven competitors in the event. Sakina successfully lifted 82 kilograms in her first attempt before her second attempt of lifting 85 kg was ruled out. While she was able to lift the weight, the jury deemed that she wasn’t able to hold it close enough to her chest for long enough. Sakina also failed in her third attempt of 86 kg to eventually end up fifth.
