    Local League: Loyola beats MCC in super league

    Defending champion Loyola won the first match of the super league in the All-India Inter-College Basketball Tournament beating MCC 67-58 on Wednesday.

    It was a close match till the last quarter. Chari and Bala combined well for Loyola to give it a win. 

    Earlier, host Jeppiaar Institute of Technology, Sriperumpudur, beat fancied MCC to enter the super league with an all-win record in the second all india inter collegiate invitation basketball tournament on Wednesday. 

    The JIT-MCC match went to the wire and the host prevailed in the end by four points. 

    Ably served by the lanky Anand and international Moin Bek JIT came up trumps in the last quarter. Defending champion Loyola also ended with a clean slate. It beat SRM by three points in the pool A last league match. 

    In the first state level five-a-side football tournament held alongside, Kings beat host Jeppiaar Institute of Technology with Sanjay scoring the match-winner. 

    The tournament was inagurated by former India international Raman Vijayan along with Dr. N Marie Wilson, Director, JIT. 

    League scores: JIT  82 (Anand Raj 28, Visvesh 18) bt MCC 68 (Karthik 16, Raju 13) ; GTN Dindigul 81 (Venkatesh 35, Kavi Arasan 13) bt MLR Hyderabad 77 (Shiva Yadav 24); Loyola 82 ( Bala 30) bt SRM 79 (Shesank 30, Harsha 20); Sathyabama 89 (Dines 20, Manoj 15) bt Vels 52 (Ayuel leek 15,  Nitheesh 11).
