Local League: Emphatic win for Apollo Tyres

Wheels India bowlers led by D Alexander David Raj and Karampal Jangra did the bulk of the damage to dismiss India Japan Lighting for such a low score. While Alexander took four wickets for 33 runs, Jangra supported him by chipping in with three wickets for 17 runs. 

India Japan Lighting’s V Munichamy’s effort of five for 34 went in vain. In a Group B match, Apollo Tyres eased to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Heavy Vehicles Factory. Chasing a modest target of 101, Apollo Tyres raced to victory in 17.3 overs with B Praanesh remaining not out on 51 whle A Prithvi Raj scored an unbeaten 49. Apollo Tyres’ medium pacer C Kubendran sizzled with the ball claiming five for 29 and S Pradeep took three for 19.

Praanesh 51*, A. Prithvi Raj 49*)

Sathya Ramesh’s whirlwind knock of 85 off just 46 balls enabled Gurunanak College to beat SRM University by one run in the final of the Red Bull Campus T20 tournament. Not surprisingly, Sathya Ramesh received the man of the match award for his heroics with the bat. A total of four teams — Gurunanak College, SRM University, Loyola College and Hindustan College — participated in the tournament.
