Fans share joy with heroes in the park
The squad members of Chennaiyin FC celebrated their title triumph with the fans at the SDAT Nehru Park on Sunday.

The club’s supporters thronged the venue to get a glimpse of the Indian Super League Season 4 trophy, which was accompanied by the one the team bagged in 2015. Five Indian players had to miss the meet and greet with the faithful because of the national team’s training camp.
Rene Mihelic and Gregory Nelson received huge roars for thanking the fans in Tamil. Though Mohammad Rafi wasn’t fluent with the local language, he was appreciated for the effort he made. Assistant coach Mark Lillis later revealed his favourite south Indian dish was Masala Dosa, adding to the cheers at the venue.
The supporters were equally happy as the players as the side brought the trophy home after a poor last season in ISL. “I started following football only after CFC was formed in 2014. It was a memorable experience to be a part of all the home games at the ‘Marina Arena’ and a few away games. Despite being a cricket addict, I now feel more connected towards my local club,” said Vijay Pradap, who was presented with the ‘Super Fan’ award in the final between CFC and Bengaluru FC.
“Tears rolled out of my eyes after seeing my team lift the trophy. It was a moment that every CFC fan will cherish for a long time. It was a complete team effort on Saturday,” said Ravi, a member of ‘Supermachans’ fan club.
