“When I used to play, there weren’t these facilities. There were times where we didn’t have certain equipment. It is good to see the country develop,” Chawrasia said on the sidelines of a golf award function in the city on Friday.

When asked about how he sees Indian golf panning in the next couple of years, the 39-year-old said, “To be honest, it is only growing. We will certainly get better in the coming years. Don’t be surprised if you see a few of these kids on the PGA Tour.”

Chawrasia lavished praise on two-time European Tour champion Shubhankar Sharma for producing some glorious performances in the recent past.

“He is doing really well, making our country proud. Don’t forget the fact that he is only 21. We are really proud of him and hopefully the youngsters can take some inspiration from him and bring laurels to the nation,” said Chawrasia, who was present in the event.

“Everyone appears to be happy with what he has gone onto achieve. The senior pros, media are now constantly keeping track of him and talking about his showing in the recent months. This is only serving good for Indian golf,” added the Kolkata lad.
