Silver plates were presented to Anthony Amalraj, G Sathyan, Selena Selvakumar, Yashini and Preyesh for their outstanding shows in different ITTF tournaments in 2017.
Selena was the biggest beneficiary, taking home a sum of Rs 37,000. She secured two silver and two bronze medals at the Nationals. The Tamil Nadu lass hogged the limelight by clinching triple gold in Egypt last year.
Her compatriot, Yashini, got an overall amount of Rs 25,000. Preyesh S, who clinched gold in two categories and bagged bronze in the sub-junior doubles event, received an overall cash prize of Rs 14,500.
Former Indian hockey player and Arjuna Awardee Mohammed Riaz was the chief guest. He distributed the cash awards to the medal winners. Men’s team coach Ravi Venkatesh during the event said, “The system is very transparent in TN.
We also have a lot of depth. I feel it is one reason why the state has produced many stalwarts like Sharath Kamal etc., Despite losing many players to institutions, I feel we can consistently make it to the final four in the National Championships.”
