Local League: Mukunth’s ton helps Trotters take lead

At close of play on day two, Trotters was 252 for three, ahead by 17 runs. Mukunth 135 (271b, 15x4) was involved in two big partnerships, the first with X Thalaivan Sargunam 51 (120b, 4x4, 1x6), where the duo added 123 runs for the first wicket in 39.4 overs. The second saw him raise 121 runs for the third with S Radhakrishnan, who is unbeaten on 55 (165b, 4x4). 

In the Plate division, TI Cycles captain Aditya Ganesh led from the front with an unbeaten 180 (366b, 17x4, 1x6) to enable his team to declare its innings at 421 for eight against UFCC (T. Nagar). UFCC struggled in its reply as it finished the day’s play at a shaky 85 for six. In another Plate division match, Alwarpet is firmly on course to taking a huge lead against CromBest.

R Walsh scored an unbeaten 114 off 97 balls to help St John’s Academy beat AM Jain Senior Secondary School by 80 runs in the Father Mathews Memorial Under-14 City Schools knockout tournament at the Reddy’s Santosapuram Ground here. Walsh’s century propelled the winner to a total of 248 in its stipulated 30 overs. He was well supported by S Hrithish, who scored 51 runs. Chasing 249, AM Jain was bowled out for 168 runs with Walsh stealing the show with the ball as well. K Nilesh top-scored for AM Jain with 64 runs.

Off-spinner S Swaminathan took five for 27 as Kancheepuram drubbed Pondicherry by 67 runs in the TNCA Inter Districts T20 Tournament for SS Rajan Trophy at Villupuram. Swaminathan also contributed with the bat making 42 not out as Kancheepuram ran up 184 for five in its 20 overs. Swaminathan came back to haunt Pondicherry as it ended up at 117 for nine. In Dindigul, Tiruchirapally defeated Tiruvarur by 66 runs. In reply to Tiruchirapally’s 159 for four, Tiruvavrur folded up for 93 in 15.1 overs.
