Confident of dealing with expectations: Shaw
Ever since he lifted the U-19 World Cup trophy, Prithvi Shaw has become the toast of the nation with accolades pouring in and deservedly so. Despite a hectic schedule and just two days after returning to Mumbai, the 18-year-old underlined his commitment to his state by choosing to participate in the Vijay Hazare tournament in Chennai.
Chennai
It’s been more than a decade since Mumbai last won the premier domestic one-day trophy and Shah wants to make his presence felt in what he hopes will be another successful campaign.Â
After Mumbai defeated Tamil Nadu on Thursday, Shaw took some time out to interact with the scribes.Â
Excerpts:Â
On being sledged in the World Cup final: These things keep happening. I don’t know what he was saying. I was just concentrating on my game. I didn’t pay any attention to what the bowler was saying.
How is it to gel with the state team? I know the team inside out as I have been playing in Ranji Trophy and it’s a known environment. Since we won the World Cup, there is bound to be media attention.
Are you ready for the senior level? I don’t know...I think I’m ready. I have to keep scoring runs consistently. I have to grab the opportunities I get to be there in the senior team.
Did Rahul (Dravid) work on technique? He doesn’t talk much about technique. Instead, he focuses on mental aspects. He helps the team prepare on the mental side through his positive words and vibes. There are no negative talks before the match or practice.
How do you deal with expectations, the upcoming IPL and comparisons with Tendulkar? I don’t know what they are (IPL franchises) thinking. Personally, I’m not thinking about IPL now because I’m here to play Vijay Hazare. I will plan for how to play in IPL when the tournament nears. I would like to live in the present. Expectations will be there from outside the field and everyone and I’m confident of dealing with them. Obviously, people will compare with Sachin sir but I know my game and I better be grounded because he is the god of cricket. I have not even started and it’s a long journey.
