North Eastern Warriors upset Bengaluru Blasters
Choosing to remain true to its name, and belying its lowly status on the table, the North Eastern Warriors exuded the warrior spirit in it to upstage favourite Bengaluru Blasters 3-0 in the season three of the Premier Badminton League at the Nehru Indoor Stadium on Friday.

It was also the North East team's first win this season and who would have thought before the match that it stood a chance to defy the mighty Blasters with such a convincing margin.
When the Blasters took a 1-0 lead after winning the men's doubles match, it seemed the Warriors would be left with a lot of catching up to do.Â
Then came the remarkable turnaround as Ajay Jayaram, playing with grit and loads of resolve, made it seem like child's play in outclassing Bengaluru's Chong Wei Feng 15-8, 15-13.
Jayaram's racquet was equipped with all the necessary shots as he had an answer to everything his beleaguered opponent threw at him.
While the 30-year-old Indian breezed through the opening game, he was slightly stretched in the second before wrapping up the tie 15-13. The Blasters nominated it as its trump match and it must have been appalled at the one-sidedness of the contest as Jayaram made a mismatch of it.
The women's match that followed was a humdinger as both Michelle Li of North East and Kirsty Gilmour of Blasters slugged it out by engaging each other in long rallies.
It required a tremendous fightback from Li to counter the fiery Gilmour as the latter raced away to pocket the opening game 15-7.Â
The reigning Commonwealth Games gold winner Li was in no mood to throw in the towel and reaped the reward of a memorable win by believing in her ability. She edged out her more fancied opponent 15-14 and 15-13 in the next two games to seal the trump match and along with it an unexpected but completely deserving win for her team.
