City gears up for home leg of Premier Badminton League
The city is in the grip of a badminton fever as it hosts the penultimate leg of the third edition of the Premier Badminton League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here. The five matches in the fourth leg will be held from January 5 to 9.

“We don’t normally get to watch world-class players like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Viktor Axelsen in action on home soil. PBL has presented us with a wonderful opportunity to be a part of another sporting extravaganza,” said a digital volunteer, who can’t wait to see his idols live.
With Chennai Open Tennis Tournament ending its 21-year relationship with the city, PBL serves as a welcome replacement for all the sports lovers in the first week of January. “Chennai Open used to create a buzz here during the New Year week. PBL could just replicate it in the coming years, making its debut in Chennai this time around,” said another fan. The supporters will be privileged enough to watch seven of the eight participating teams in action, with home side Chennai Smashers playing two out of the five matches. “Though we will get to see all the teams except Delhi Dashers, our focus is solely on backing the Chennai team (Chennai Smashers),” added another badminton lover.
Despite losing out on Parupalli Kashyap, the Vijay Prabhakar- owned franchise has managed to retain its vital cogs from the title-winning season. PV Sindhu, Chris Adcock, Gabby Adcock and Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk are the members of the Chennai Smashers team.

- Jan 6: Chennai Smashers vs Ahmedabad Smash Masters
- Jan 7: Hyderabad Hunters vs Awadhe Warriors
- Jan 8: Chennai Smashers vs Bengaluru Blasters
- Jan 9: Mumbai Rockets vs Ahmedabad Smash Masters
