Awadhe Warriors clinched the first two ties against defending champion Chennai Smashers in the inaugural match of the Premier Badminton League Season 3 here on Saturday.
Chennai
Smashers’ Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock got off to a flier in the tie but slumped in the final two games against Tang Chun Man and Christinna Pederson in the mixed doubles category. Awadhe Warriors bounced back after losing the opening game to win the first tie 10-15, 15-5, 15-11.Â
It was one-way traffic in the second game as Warriors comfortably defeated the Smashers 15-5 and restored the parity.Â
In the men’s singles category, which was Awadhe’s trump match of the night, Parupalli Kashyap cruised past debutant Daniel Farid in straight games. He defeated the World Number 225 15-12, 15-8. Awadhe Warriors lead the Chennai Smashers 3-0 after the encounter.Â
After a disastrous start, Farid made some sort of a comeback in the initial stages of the second game, only to lose it 15-8 eventually.Â
