Though he did not get to bat as India lost only four wickets, Washington made his mark with the ball. He had a fairly successful first over in ODIs. He conceded only four singles, two each to LahiruThirimanne and Angelo Mathews.

With his eighth ball, Washington troubled Thirimanne, who stepped out only to miss the ball. There was a shout for lbw but there was an inside edge.

Washington Sundarfinally had the better of Thirimanne in his second over.A flat ball, angling into thestumps and full coaxed the Sri Lankan batsman into attempting a reverse sweep, missed the line and was bowled.

It was a dream journey for the Tamil Nadu player, who had a successful season in Tamil Nadu Premier League for Tuti Patriots. And he had played under Australian Steven Smith in IPL for Rising Pune Supergiant and alongsideMahendra Singh Dhoni. After his first spell of four overs in which he gave away 24 runs, Washington could not be kept away from the field as he took a smart catch to dismiss NiroshanDickwella at backward point.
