Viswanathan Anand ends on losing note
Former World Champion Viswanathan Anand turned 48 on Monday. Like in the last few years, the Chennai-based Grandmaster has spent his birthday in London, playing in the Chess Classic. And it was not a particularly pleasing day for Anand as he lost to Wesley So of US in the last round and finished second from bottom in the annual tournament.

On Sunday, he played the eighth round and drew against Vachier-Lagrave of France. Michael Adams of England also lost his last-round game helping Anand avoid the last place.
Fabiano Caruana of US and Ian Nepomaniatchtchi of Russia jointly won the tournament with six points each. World Champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway and Vachier-Lagrave tied for second place with five points each.
