Hindustan University, Don Bosco are RFYS city champions

St Gabriel’s HSS and PS Senior Secondary School too stamped their authority on the championship, taking the Junior Boys and Junior Girls’ crowns. All the city winners will now take part in the zonals for teams in South India before the grand finale, the Nationals in late December. Hindustan Unversity (Rajiv Gandhi, Salai) needed an extra time goal, in the 106th minute, to beat Loyola College (Nungambakkam)1-0 and book its place in the zonals. Muhammed Miqdad proved to be the hero, scoring the opportunistic goal. 

The Senior Boys’ clash turned out to be a thriller, with Don Bosco beating Evaan’s HSS 3-2. Harish H put the Boscons ahead in the 39th minute but Keerthi Mohan nullified the lead three minutes later. Keerthi added one more goal to his tally, in the 93rd minute, but by then it was already too late. Don Bosco regained the lead in the 58th minute through Godferry Joe. Harish H scored one more in the 90th minute to end Evaan’s HSS’s fight. 

The Junior Boys’ final was also a close affair, with St Gabriel’s HSS coming from behind to overcome Chettinad Vidyashram 2-1. The Gabriel boys sneaked into the lead in the 11th minute only to see Immanuel V (19th minute) and S Devaraj Devaraj (52nd) pump in two goals and winning the encounter. The Junior Girls’ fixture was the only one-sided clash with PS Senior SS getting the better of Immaculate Heart of Mary Girls HSS 7-0.
