Murali Vijay cracks ton
Murali Vijay, who is all set to represent the national team in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, smashed a blistering 140 to help Tamil Nadu to a commanding 292 for 3 against Odisha on the first day of the Ranji Trophy match on Thursday at the DRIEMS Ground, Cuttack.
Chennai
Vijay smacked 15 boundaries and a lone six en route to his three-figure mark before falling to Suryakant Pradhan. Abhinav Mukund was dismissed for 12 following a mix up with India opener Murali Vijay.
After losing skipper Mukund early, M Vijay and wicket-keeper batsman N Jagadeesan (88) stitched together a 145-run stand for the second wicket to help Tamil Nadu post a big score.Â
Baba Indrajith and Vijay Shankar remained not out at stumps with 41 and 8 respectively. Odisha bowlers remained helpless throughout the day, with Suryakant Pradhan and Govinda Poddar picking up a wicket each. The fourth placed side in the group will look to post a mammoth first innings total to have any chances of clinching an outright win.
In the encounter in Mumbai, the host could barely celebrate its 500th first class match being dismissed for 171 by Baroda in the first innings. The away side got off to a flying start dismissing in-form Prithvi Shaw and right-handed Ajinkya Rahane for a duck.Â
Atit Sheth and Lukman Meriwala returned with five-wicket hauls for Baroda. Aditya Tare top-scored with 50 runs for Mumbai with eight of its batsmen failing to reach the 20-run mark.Â
In reply, Baroda was 63 for 1 in 26 overs at stumps. A Waghmode (15) and V Solanki (32) remained not out for Baroda. Mumbai bowlers will have to replicate the performances of the Baroda bowlers to have any chance of staying in the contest at the Wankhede Stadium.
